Review: Gabrielle's offers a very elegant dining atmosphere. The food here is prepared with wonderful presentation. Color and flavor are well balanced with a menu that is broad and aggressive. The wine list offers a wonderful selection of wine. The Bar room offers an opportunity to enjoy a cocktail secluded from the restaurant. A great place for entertaining out of town guests, as well as business dinners.

Gabrielle's has built a greenhouse behind the restaurant in the fall of 2005, where the Chef now grows a variety of fresh organic herbs and vegetables.

Review: The menu has been revised with more choices on Mondays, and the wine list is quote unusual with many Spanish and Italian selections. They now have a new deserts that you order in advance of your meal, and they are extremely good. Food presentation is wonderful, as well as the quality and taste. The stemware is a pleasure to drink from. A touch of added class with real linen hand towels in the restrooms. restaurant also features some very nice artwork.

Pattaconk 1850 Bar & Grill
33 Main St
Chester, CT
Live Music on Tuesday & Wednesday evenings Starting 8PM, and some weekends. Check with the Bar for a schedule of the summer series of Friday and Saturday music.

Review: From 4PM to 7PM, the atmosphere is that "Everybody knows your name" as this is a popular local Bar and Grille. Food ranges from Hamburgers to Filet Mignon. In my past two visits the food had been better than I can ever remember. The Pattaconk "Board" with Hangar Steak is simply delicious!

Sage American Bar & Grill
129 W Main St
Chester, CT

Live Music on most Friday nights, and some Saturday evenings. They use only quality performers and bands.

During the winter months, this is our favorite restaurant to visit due to the great atmosphere of the large fireplace which burns HOT in the tap room. Cozy couches to enjoy the fire while waiting for dinner, or to enjoy a drink.

Review: This building was an old brush factory in the 1800's, and still has the original pulley and power belt system suspended from the ceilings, which adds a lot of character to this restaurant. Outside of the building is a beautiful waterfall, directly on the Pattaconk brook, that once powered the old factory.

The Sage offers a nice Prime Rib dish. The portion and quality are very good but arrive early as Prime rib unually sells out before nights end. The wine list has recently become a bit sparce, but there are still some nice choices that you will enjoy.

During our last visit, we had an inconsistant experience. Our server was new to serving, and failed to communicate with the kitchen properly. Parts of our meal were not prepared as requested, and timing of delivery of some dishes were not as requested.

Sadly, the property is experienceing some serious septic issues, and the odor of sewage at the end of our meal was completely overpowering, ruining what was otherwise an OK Meal. What a shame too, because the atmosphere of the building is spectacular, including on walking over a covered bridge to enter the restaurant. I will rate the atmosphere as if there will be no septic odor present.

Review: Lupo is a fun dining experience. An interesting menu that allows for a large selection of small serving size dishes called "little bites". This is ideal for tasting a variety of items on the menu.

Pretty much every items on the menu is EXCELLENT. Service here is good. Pleasant greeting, and friendly service. Reservations recommended Friday and Saturday nights. Some tables have floor A/C vents located near them which is drafty during summer months, and the dining room is loud.

Live Music on Friday and Saturday Evenings from 9:30 till 12:30.

On Thursday's they hold an Open Mic night, for musicians to just walk through he door, and jam.

The Friday night after Christmas in 2006, my wife and I stopped in to have dinner. We were expecting to eat a nice meal, simple family style restaurant food, however we did not expect what we were served. Out meal was so fantastic, that we both were so pleasantly surprised. I had the Atlantic salmon dish, that was prepared perfectly. Presentation, temperature, flavor, and texture of the fish was just incredible. The vegetables were also prefect with rich flavors. My wife ordered the sliced sirloin steak, which was served exactly as she asked for it (Medium Rare) and was wonderful. Service was friendly are timing was good. You should note that when we sat down to eat, the restaurant was at 100% capacity. We sat at the only open 2 seat table. For the kitchen to serve food of this quality under full house conditions, is really impressive, at ANY restaurant. Our meal definitely was a 4 star meal, but will hold on upgrading the rating until we have one more visit to see if this remains consistent.

Nino's (
381 Town St
East Haddam, CT
Review: Formerly known as the "Hale & Hearty" & "Bistro by Benino", this restaurant was completely renovated, and has now re-opened as "Nino's".

This is a clean elegant restaurant that serves comfortable American / Italian dishes, as well as Pizza. The Bar room is nice, and seats about 12 people at the Bar. Two fireplaces, and PLENTY Of outdoor seating. The main dining room is capable of handling parties as large as 90 people.

In the 1st week of November 2007, we dined here. The restaurant was not crowded on our Tuesday evening 7:30PM visit. We were greated and seated imediately. The wine list offered a nice variety of wines to select from, mostly european wines. Our waitress was friendly, and knowledgable of the menu, specials, as well as the wine list.

We all ate veal dishes, and remarked that our meals were wonderful.

La Vita Gustosa Ristorante & Bakery - Italian

Restaurant review: This is an enjoyable Italian Bistro restaurant that is tucked quietly across the street from the Historic Goodspeed Opera House, and Gelston House. It offers a great Bar room with ample seating for groups as large as 40 people, including 15 seats at the bar. They usually serve food until 9:30PM. The main dining room is large, and offers a nice dining atmosphere. In September 2006, they opened a new section that nearly doubled the restaurant's Capacity yp to about 120 people

The menu offers a large selection of Italian dishes. Bread is baked on the premises, and is wonderful. There is a special seasoned bread stick that they make that is nicely seasoned with Italian spices and garlic. It is to die for!

TIP: Wednesday thru Saturday, La Vita Gustosa has the BEST overall bartender in Eastern Connecticut!!!. If you can get a seat at "Peter Marshall's Bar" which only offers 16 seats!, Peter is well known for NEVER letting a patron go dry, and excellent friendly service if you wish to eat at the Bar. I dare you to order a Martini from Peter, and not be impressed with his presentation... I double dare you to pick it up after he serves it to you, and sip from it without spilling a drop! You have NO Chance.

Recommended Martinis... Esspressotini, Appletini and Key Lime. Peter ALWAYS offers a Special Martini of the day, if you are in the mood for a surprise.

Review: Early American restaurant with a,great Tap Room and nightly live music! The biggest thing going for this location is the rich history behind this building built in 1776. The tap room is one of the most unique bars in all of New England you must see this room for yourself.

The antique art the walls, and antique gun collection (1600s to the 1900s) in display cases whispers a humm of the American Revolution, and the era of Industrialization and steamships.

Live Music on Friday and Saturday Nights starting at 9PM
Review: A great value on the menu specials, as portion sizes are generous. We dined on a Tuesday evening, and pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was completely full. Seating was a bit crowded, but manageable. The Prime Rib special was a fabulous value, with such a large cut, for $11.95. Service was very good considering every table was seated, we had only a few minor requests dropped. The lentil soup special was excellent, as the lentils were not overcooked, and served very hot with lots of flavor.

Crows Nest Gourmet - Deli

Review: Wonderful Soups and deli sandwiches! It is located at a somewhat hard to find location inside Dauntless marina... ask a local resident to point you in the right direction. Breakfast here is good, but service can be VERY slow. If you are in a rush, do NOT eat here. If however you wish to sit and chat with a companion, and take in the beautiful view of the CT River, and the boat yard, this is a good choice.

Blue Oar (May to October)
16 Snyder Rd (on the river)
Haddam, CT
Review: Good Seafood - dinner sunset outdoors, bring light jacket for sunset. Boaters can pull right up to the restaurant for a wonderful dinner. Located inside the property of the Midway Marina about 1 mile north of the East Haddam Swing bridge, on the west bank of the CT River. Public bathrooms are about a 2 minute walk from the outdoor dining area, up a steep hill. - (This restaurant is a Hidden GEM however you should pack a picnic basket with all of the following.
1) Your favorite bottle(s) of wine, and Opener
2) Wine Glasses
3) Your own silverware (They provide plasticware)
4) Bug spray if you plan to dine at sunset.
5) A Light Jacket for after Sunset

If you come prepared with all of these things, you will very likely have a WONDERFUL dining experience.)

Most tourists never hear about the Blue Oar, and many locals like it that way... it is a hidden gem. As crazy as this sounds, you really should try eating here, despite bringing many of your own things. You will be happy that you stopped in. This is the ONLY place where you can dine outdoors, right on the CT River, south of Middletown.

Coyote Blue - Mexican Restaurant
RT 154
Haddam CT
Review: This very small restaurant (about 45 seats) exceeded my expectations from its exterior appearance. Walking through the doors I felt transported to a small dessert town in the middle of no place in Arizona. Immediately greeted at the door with a friendly smile, we were seated within 8 minutes, after being told that the wait was 30 minutes. Service was very FAST and friendly! The liquor "tequila" is practically worshiped at this restaurant. They go out of their way to educate you about tequila, and they have a menu that is almost entirely dedicated to drinks made with tequila. The main course I ordered was the Coyote Combo. It was HOT, great presentation, and delicious. Portion size was generous, and prices were very reasonable. Service was excellent, and drinks were replaced in a timely fashion. An all around very good meal. After talking with a few people, I learned that that do not take reservations, yet waits can reach 45 minutes+, however the food is worth the wait! My only negative comment is that the mens bathroom was a "very" small room, but I'll be back!

Copper Beech Inn
46 Main St
Ivoryton, CT

Review: Visiting the Copper Beach is an experience that you will not soon forget. The restaurant is located inside of a beautiful large Inn, that is beautifully furnished with period early American paintings and furniture. Service from the time you enter the building, until you leave is top notch, as good as it gets.

The menu is set up for a three course meal, and is changed frequently by the chef. The wine list offers a tremendous selection of this finest wines, and Chris is well versed in all of them, if you need assistance.

You will find that your meal will be prepared to the utmost of perfection. A rare treat to say the very least.

The desert selections are fabulous, including a trio of CRÈME BRULÈ, and a cheese bar offering a selection of some of the finest cheeses.

If you have a great reason to celebrate, or need to impress someone, this would be the place to have that special dinner!

The Food was delightful. our meals included a two cheese salad that was delicious, followed by an 8 ounce Sirloin steak with local grown fingerling potatoes, buttermilk onion rings and Cabernet Sauvignon veal sauce. A popular place for boaters from May to October, but is open year round. They offer good food, at a fair price, and are usually packed solid on Friday and Saturday nights in the Summer, with an indoor and outdoor bar. Live Music is frequently played at the outdoor veranda during the Summer.

Obviously the focus of the food is on seafood.

Review: This restaurant review is outside of our local norm. Located inside a busy casino at the Mohegan Sun Resort. We arrived here as a happen stance, and had no reservations, which we learned are needed to be made days in advance of your dining visit. The hostess was very polite, and suggested we visit the Bar room, and if we managed to get a seat at one of the three tables, or at the bar, they would serve us dinner. Luckily we did manage to get seats within 10 minutes, and experienced a wonderful meal. The 32oz Prime Rib dressed in a Cowboy setup was sold out, but it was strongly recommended to get the Kansas City 24oz Steak which they would dress up with the cowboy setup. The meat was grilled to perfection! The side of creamed spinach with cheese was delicious. The bar offered a fine selection of your better quality liquor and wine. I enjoyed a very well made margarita on the rocks with no salt. Service was terrific across the board, and mind you that this restaurant which seats several hundred people was completely packed. Any restaurant that can handle a full house with great service is doing something right.
